25 teams turned out for the inaugural Ochil’s 8 Relay Race which was more than a pleasantly surprising number for its first year. Teams arrive from as far as Forres and Annan not to mention
a great spread from across Central Scotland.
The weather started off wet, with intermittent downpours and occasional slightly damp moments. Cloud capped the hills for
the major part of the day, pea soup was definitely on the menu. However, this didn’t deter the athletes as they all competed with gusto and determination.
Each of the 3 routes
were challenging, covering some of the steeper slopes of the Ochils and, with the wet conditions and low cloud cover, this made negotiating each of the check points an even more demanding task. Nevertheless, all competitors arrived back safe and sound without
any major blips, having survived a few epic bum slides.
The camaraderie among the runners was amazing. Most competitors waited until the last runner came down the hill
to shout them on in support for the epic effort they had endured because of the weather.
Apart from a route sabotage on leg 3, (thankfully Gordon from Wee County saved the day and
re-routed the course in time to prevent more runners being mislead) the black clouds didn’t dampen the spirits of the athletes and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces (after they had run their race!!). Or maybe it was a smile of relief that they

All proceeds from the race
will go to McMillan Cancer Support and Ochil Mountain Rescue and we are very pleased to say that you all have raised £800 for these worthwhile causes.
Male Senior Team winners with the Gilmores from Carnethy consisting of Neil, Iain and
Andrew Gilmore (Time 2:57:21)
Female Senior Team winners were the HBT Dominants with Sarah O’Neill, Lucy Taylor and Georgia Tinley (Time 3:51:35)
1st past the post in the Mixed Category were HBT A team comprising of Andrew McKechanie, Eilis McKechanie and Jeff Simpson (Time 3:40:40)
Female V40 Category champs were Reluctant Ochil Ladies, consisting of Karen Kealey, Susan Lindsay and Mhairi McIntosh (Time 4:00:54)
Male V40 winners were the Carnethy Lunch Runners. Team runners were Stewart Whitlie, Mark Johnston and Dessie Flanagan (Time 3:15:18)
Unfortunately as Gary Fraser couldn't read his own hand writing !!!! the Male V40 prize had been given to Annan Team (ADAC). Sorry Carnethy 3 bottles of wine will make its way to you soon.
Female V60 victors were Fife AC-Simply 60s with Jocelyn Scott, Innes Bracegirdle and Margaret Martin (Time 4:21:25)
there were no entries for the M & FV50 and MFV60 but hopefully next year, that will change!
